Nissen Family Vineyard Wedding in Hartington Nebraska | Paige & Jacob
Some wedding mornings feel calm.
Others feel emotional.
Paige and Jacob’s wedding day felt like both.
Their day began at Nissen Family Vineyard, just outside Hartington Nebraska near Bow Valley. This vineyard is not just a beautiful location. It is also part of Paige’s family story, as the property is owned by her uncle.
That made the morning feel even more meaningful as friends and family gathered among the vineyard rows to start the day.
The celebration later moved north to The Old Mill Event Venue in Yankton South Dakota, where Paige and Jacob were married in front of hundreds of their closest friends and family.
What began as a peaceful morning in the Nebraska countryside turned into exactly what Paige described in her questionnaire.
A big ole party.
A Morning at the Family Vineyard
We arrived early with a three person video team at Nissen Family Vineyard.
Located just north of Hartington Nebraska near Bow Valley, the vineyard overlooks wide stretches of farmland and rolling hills. Rows of grape vines line the property and create an incredible setting for weddings and gatherings.
The morning began with soft overcast skies which created beautiful lighting for drone footage across the vineyard. As the day progressed the clouds began to break and sunlight slowly filled the property.
It quickly became clear why couples love getting married here.
Every direction you turn reveals another beautiful view.
Videographer Tip:
One thing many couples do not think about is capturing the location itself. A professional video team should arrive early enough to film the environment around your wedding day. At places like Nissen Family Vineyard, that means capturing the vineyard rows, the landscape, and even small details like wind moving through the vines. Those location shots give your film context. Twenty or fifty years from now when you watch your wedding film again, you are not just seeing the ceremony. You are seeing the place where your story happened.
Bridal Prep with Vineyard Views
Paige and her bridesmaids spent the morning getting ready in the large open second floor space at the vineyard.
The upstairs area is filled with natural light and overlooks the vineyard property, making it a perfect location for bridal prep.
Hair and makeup took place while the room filled with laughter and stories from years of friendship between the bridesmaids.
Because many of the girls had known each other for so long, the morning felt relaxed and joyful.
Drinks were poured. Jokes were shared. Everyone simply enjoyed being together.
We filmed Paige’s interview outside on one of the second floor balconies where the view stretched across the vineyard rows.
It was one of those locations where you could feel how special the place was to her.
Videographer Tip:
One thing many couples do not realize is how important audio is in a wedding film. Throughout the morning we record natural ambient sounds from the location. Wind moving through the vines. Laughter from the balcony. Footsteps across the wooden floors. When these sounds are layered into a wedding film, couples are not just watching the moment again. They are transported back to the exact place where it happened.
Groom Prep in the Vineyard Tasting Room
While the ladies were upstairs, Jacob and the groomsmen were getting ready downstairs in the vineyard tasting room.
The tasting room is surrounded by large windows that let natural light fill the space. It made for a perfect location for the guys to get ready together.
There was plenty of joking around as the group helped each other tie ties and finish getting dressed.
We filmed Jacob’s interview outside near the vineyard rows where the sunlight created a warm backdrop behind him.
One challenge during the morning was making sure Jacob did not accidentally see Paige before their first look.
That required a little coordination between floors as we moved between filming locations.
Photo & Video Tip:
For groom prep, make sure everyone is near a well lit location with natural light. Large windows are ideal. The still frames from this film show how much better suits and faces look when the guys are standing near good window light instead of dark rooms or basements.Coordination is also important during the morning. The groom should never accidentally see the bride before the first look. Our team uses headsets to communicate between filmmakers so we can move people between spaces without ruining that moment.
A First Look Among the Vines
Paige and Jacob chose to do their first look at the vineyard before heading to Yankton.
Their first look took place beneath the shaded structure where vineyard ceremonies are often held.
The location was set slightly away from the bridal party which allowed the couple to share a quiet moment together before the rest of the day unfolded.
When Jacob turned around and saw Paige for the first time, the emotion of the day immediately became visible.
These moments are always some of our favorites to capture.
From Hartington Nebraska to Yankton South Dakota
After bridal party photos around the vineyard property, the group had a few moments to relax before leaving for the ceremony.
At one point the groomsmen even tossed a football around while waiting between photos.
It felt like a classic Nebraska wedding moment.
Soon after, everyone loaded onto the party bus and began the short drive north to Yankton South Dakota.
The drive from Nissen Family Vineyard to The Old Mill Event Venue takes about thirty minutes and makes for an easy transition between locations.
Videographer Tip:
When weddings include multiple locations, having a larger video team can make a huge difference. For Paige and Jacob’s wedding, one videographer stayed with the bridal party while two of us traveled ahead to the ceremony venue. This allowed us to set up tripods, microphones, and connect to the audio system before guests arrived.
