Most couples tour venues. Kylie helped build hers.
That is the part of this wedding I kept coming back to.
On July 12, 2025, Kylie Gana and Chase DeVries got married at Venue 5 Twenty-Two in south Lincoln, Nebraska. Kylie and her mom, Lori, are the owners and founders. The building is 17,000 square feet, but on this day it did not feel like a showroom. It felt lived in. More than 400 family members and friends were everywhere.
The ceremony was outside. The reception filled the building. Black and white details kept it clean, and then the people made it warm.
Their story had already taken some hits. The first two years were long distance. COVID made that harder. Chase also spent seasons on the road for livestock judging. They learned to communicate because there really was no other option.
I do not want to make that sound neater than it was. Long distance is hard. Building a venue is hard. Planning a 400-plus-person wedding inside that same venue sounds, honestly, a little nuts.
But it made sense for them.
For one day, Kylie got to stop thinking like an owner and let the building do what she and her family made it to do. She got to marry Chase in it.
Getting Ready at Venue 5 Twenty-Two
I have filmed enough wedding mornings to know travel time always looks smaller on a timeline than it feels in real life.
This morning, nobody was loading dresses, flowers, camera bags, and half the wedding party into vehicles just to cross Lincoln. Kylie and Chase both got ready at Venue 5 Twenty-Two, so people could settle in instead of watching the clock.
Kylie was in the bridal suite with her bridesmaids. It has big windows, white walls, and enough room for the quiet moments and the chaos to happen at the same time. From the camera side, that light is great, but it still changes as the sun moves. We watched it instead of assuming the room would look the same all morning.
Across the venue, Chase was joking with his guys and trying to process that the day was finally here.
He said he was ready to get the next chapter rolling with Kylie.
That line was simple, but it was the center of the whole day. The venue looked incredible. Their life together was still the reason everyone came.
An Emotional First Look Outside the Venue
Kylie and Chase did their first look right outside Venue 5 Twenty-Two.
At first it was playful. Then Chase turned around and everything got quiet for a second.
Kylie thanked him for being her rock and her best friend. They laughed, hugged, and had a few minutes together before more than 400 people filled the property.
I am not going to tell every couple they have to do a first look. Waiting until the aisle can be the right choice. The tradeoff is time. A first look gives you one quiet pocket together and takes some pressure off the photo and video timeline later.
For Kylie and Chase, it was the right call. They got one piece of the day that still belonged only to them.
What It Is Like to Have a Wedding at Venue 5 Twenty-Two
Venue 5 Twenty-Two is a 17,000-square-foot wedding and event venue in south Lincoln, Nebraska. The venue lists indoor and outdoor spaces, a bright bridal suite, a separate groom lounge, a fully turfed patio, flexible reception layouts, full bar service, outdoor fire pits, and onsite parking.
From the photo and video side, the most useful feature is not the size. It is that the full wedding can stay on one property.
For Kylie and Chase, getting ready, the first look, ceremony, cocktails, dinner, toasts, and dancing all stayed connected. We were not burning an hour driving across Lincoln while the people they cared about were already doing something worth filming.
I do not think every wedding needs to squeeze value out of every minute. But driving costs real story time. At Venue 5 Twenty-Two, we could spend that time watching people instead.

An Outdoor Lutheran Wedding Ceremony in Lincoln
The ceremony happened outside beneath the open-sided structure, with greenery behind the altar and the venue sitting just beyond it.
Black wedding-party attire kept the look modern. White hydrangeas, blush details, trailing greenery, and crystal chandeliers softened it enough that the space never felt cold.
The Downtown Collective played live while family and the wedding party came down the aisle. Before Kylie walked out, she stopped for a moment with her dad. Then they made the walk together with Chase waiting at the front.
Faith was part of this ceremony because it is part of their relationship and part of the venue itself. Venue 5 Twenty-Two takes its name from Galatians 5:22 and the fruit of the Spirit.
That could have felt like an easy reference to the sign on the building. It did not. Kylie and Chase were standing at the altar while love, patience, kindness, faithfulness, and self-control were being spoken over their marriage.
The name of the venue and the point of the ceremony met in the same place. That hit different.
Surrounded by More Than 400 People Who Loved Them
At one point, the officiant asked Kylie and Chase to turn around and look at everybody behind them.
Parents. Grandparents. Siblings. Friends. Their whole wedding party. More than 400 people who had watched them work through distance, COVID, road time, and five years of dating.
The turn lasted only a few seconds. From a filming standpoint, it is exactly why a wide camera matters. If you only watch the couple, you miss the reason the moment landed.
This was not a room full of extras in the background. It was their community, standing there where they could finally see it.
Vows, Rings, and a Unity Candle
Kylie and Chase exchanged traditional vows and rings, then lit a unity candle together.
The Nebraska wind did what it does and made the candle less predictable. A lighter came out, they handled it, and the ceremony kept moving.
I would not cut that just to make the ceremony look perfect. The little recovery is part of the memory. Weddings are live. Things happen.
After the blessing, they shared their first kiss and walked back down the aisle with more than 400 people cheering behind them.
We also preserved the complete ceremony with multiple cameras and clean audio, because the short film and the full ceremony do two different jobs.
A Modern Black-and-White Wedding Reception
Inside Venue 5 Twenty-Two, the black-and-white design carried into the reception without feeling stiff.
White flowers and greenery softened the room. Black attire and the clean lines of the venue kept it modern. Once the warm reception lights came on and people filled the space, the room looked completely different than it had that morning.
Dinner came first, followed by five toasts. Five can be a lot on paper. Here, it gave the story more voices. Parents, siblings, and close friends brought up pieces of Kylie and Chase's relationship the couple could not tell from their own seats.
We were also watching the tables. Grandparents smiling. Friends laughing before the punch line was finished. Parents trying to hold it together. Those reactions are easy for a couple to miss in a room this big.
Then DJ Romeo opened the dance floor and the whole thing got loud fast. Kylie and Chase had their first dance, the room filled up, and the venue their family imagined was finally doing exactly what it was built to do.
Holding a whole lot of people and giving them a reason to stay awhile.

Keep the Full Day in One Place
If the venue can handle getting ready, the first look, ceremony, and reception, use that advantage. Less driving gives your Lincoln wedding photographer and videographer more time with the people who matter.
The gain is not another twenty posed photos. It is breathing room. Better reactions, cleaner audio setups, and fewer portraits squeezed into a five-minute hole in the timeline.
Plan for Nebraska Light and Wind
The outdoor ceremony area gives you cover, but the direction of the light still changes. Walk the first-look and ceremony spots with your photo and video team before the timeline is locked.
Wind matters even more for audio. One microphone is not a plan. For an outdoor ceremony, we use separate sources and backups so one gust or one loose connection does not take the vows with it.
Get the Venue During the Day and at Night
Venue 5 Twenty-Two looks like a different building once the exterior sign and architectural lights come on.
Leave ten minutes after sunset for a nighttime portrait, exterior film shots, or both. Ten honest minutes is enough. Do not turn it into another full portrait session when you should be back with your people.
Leave Room for the Stuff You Did Not Plan
Chase's first-look reaction. The bridesmaids seeing Kylie ready. Family hugging before the ceremony. Kylie and Chase turning around to take in 400-plus people behind them.
None of that needed a complicated setup. It needed room in the timeline and a team paying attention.
That is the part couples tend to underestimate. Coverage is not only about the scheduled events. It is about noticing what is happening beside them.

Kylie and Chase built their relationship through long distance, COVID, busy seasons, and a lot of communication. Then they got married inside the venue Kylie and her family had worked to create.
